For Angel Investors

StartUp Indiana provides a fast, convenient, secure, and confidential tool for angels to identify investment opportunities that match their interests. Our website tool utilizes the proven technology called AngelSoft, based on the New York Angel network site. The site provides timely email notices of new opportunities and gives angels an opportunity to work on their own schedule, at their own location.

Angel Participation Criteria

Individuals with serious interest in making angel investments in early stage companies located in eastern Indiana should register below. Angels registering certify that they meet FEC as an accredited investor and state their strong interest in making an investment within the next twelve months. Of course, there are no minimum investment requirements and investment decisions are made solely on a confidential, individual basis. Our registered angels:

  • Are all accredited investors (according to SEC rules).
  • Have track records managing and building successful companies either as entrepreneurs or operating executives.
  • Are experienced in angel investing, leading due diligence, structuring investments, and coaching entrepreneurs.
  • Form an extensive peer network of domain expertise and contacts for subsequent funding, talent and technology.
  • Are willing to dedicate the time virtually or physically to screening sessions to identify and analyze investment opportunities.
  • Expect to make an investment in the next 12 months.

Individual Responsibility

StartUp Indiana is an initiative managed by a steering committee of well-know professionals in the community, with day-to-day responsibility delegated to professional staff. StartUp Indiana is not an investment fund and makes no investments. Rather, our highly qualified screening committee screens business plans to ensure that only serious, quality plans are made available to angels on our site. Then, our angels decide which plans they want to review, and ultimately make individual investment decisions. Our participating angels understand that investments in early stage, privately-held ventures are highly risky.

To make the process as smooth and successful as possible for all of us, we recommend that you read everything in this section of our web site.

Is an Angel Investment right for me?
It is important that you understand who we are, how we operate, what we look for in potential investments, and what we expect in return.

Angels typically invest between $25,000 and $100,000 per transaction individually, and from $250,000 to $750,000 as a group. They invest in one to four transactions per year. On average, angels are patient, with an average term for holding an investment of eight years. For the risk and added value they provide, angels seek returns of at least ten times their investment.

We receive hundreds of business plan submissions each month. Our funding process involves a thorough screening process where approximately three companies per month are selected to present to our members for funding consideration.

What we're looking for
We evaluate based on management team, market opportunity, growth potential, as well as other factors. To stand out from the rest of the crowd, make sure that you meet our investment criteria and that you are fully prepared with a polished business plan and presentation.
